The Deal
FrancisHayden.com starts from the assumption that your company may need to be reinvented but you already have most if not all of the required knowledge. What is required is not more data but a new idea around which a new vision of the company can be constructed.
If this journey is to be successful, it will happen in three steps:
- Reinterpretation. The first and most difficult step is to find the seed - the idea that makes sense of what the company might become - and then to articulate it in a way that is engaging and compelling.
This step requires an individual or a small team.
- Reimagination. The second step is to work out the implications of this idea and to turn it into a real vision, a strategy and a change program that engages and energises the board, the employees and probably your shareholders, key customers and other external stake-holders.
This step requires a champion with real authority and heavyweight backing plus an initial team of evangelists.
- Reconstruction. The third step is to reorganise and reconstruct the company around the new vision. This is the change program that may have significant cultural and organisational implications.
This will involve the whole company and everyone who engages with it. FrancisHayden.com specialises in the first step where an outside view is especially valuable. It is not possible for an external consultant to be the champion for profound cultural and organisational change so the sooner the program is turned over to an internal owner the better.

The Cost
Our standard consulting offering covers only the Reinterpretation step. The task is only to find the seed of the new idea, to refine it and articulate it in an engaging and energising way and then, once the imaginations have been fired, to hand the new vision over to the internal champion who can turn it into a change program.
The problem is that this is the most risky and uncertain of all types of consulting engagement. It is not expensive but there is absolutely no guarantee that it will be successful. To reduce the risk if it is obviously going nowhere and to increase the level of engagement if it does find gold, we suggest that it is structured in 3 stages:
- Stage 1 is a preliminary search for opportunities.
It lasts one week and costs £2 000.
- Stage 2 is a focused and self-contained project designed to present the business with a new interpretation of how they might operate or create value in new ways.
It lasts two weeks and costs £5 000.
- Stage 3 fleshes out the new interpretation as an engaging and exciting vision, references existing company knowledge, identifies gaps in capability and with the program champion creates an initial road map.
It lasts four weeks and costs £10 000. The end of each stage is treated as a program gate - we report the results of that stage and you make a decision about whether to go ahead with the next stage.
Of course we open to the possibility of customising the offering to your specific requirements but we do not believe that a longer engagement is inherently more likely to be successful.
FrancisHayden.com is not interested in using a short package of work as an entry point to establish a longer-term consulting relationship.
